Trustees are elected by Consumers of Network Waitaki. A consumer is a person or persons, (including but not by way of limitation bodies corporate) who are connected to the distribution network of the Company within the District and are responsible as the end customers for the payment of line charges; for the avoidance of doubt persons who are jointly responsible as end customers for the payment of line charges; shall be treated as one Consumer. Elections are held every three years. The next election is later this year.
John Clements, Lichelle Guyan and Herb Tonkin were elected in September 2022.
Detailed rules governing the election of Trustees is available in the Trust Deed Schedule 1.
The Trust consists of five elected members. Each term, three members must retire and can seek re-election. This is a great way to ensure a level of knowledge and continuity is maintained. The Chair is elected annually by the Trustees. This year, Morgan Easton and Doreen Cleave must retire and are not seeking re-election. The election process is run by an appointed external company. The process begins with a call for nominations which is advertised through local media and will also be available on this site from 9 July 2025. If you would like to know more about the role of a trustee or contact our secretary at secretary@waitakipowertrust.co.nz for an information sheet, or to organise a trustee to make contact and/or make arrangements for you to attend an open meeting.
